A Must-Do Night Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin

Nightly Ritual: My Skin Care Routine
I have this terrible habit of staying up late – which I used to think was the reason for my bad skin. I tried everything to improve it but nothing seemed to work. While it’s (fairly) common knowledge that going to bed without washing your face is unacceptable, I never really knew what a proper “Night Skincare Routine” was. Basically, it’s tailored to your own situation. New skin cells grow faster while you sleep, so a good evening facial routine should be a high priority. At night, the goal is to repair damage from the day’s pollution, sun and stress, as well as to hydrate since you lose more water from your skin. Read on my tips!

First step: Facial care
I wish I could emphasize further how acne prone my skin is – my pimples were off the charts during my high school and college days! As in there was never a day I did NOT have pimples. Que horror! With a few visits from my derma and proper topical medication, I was able to lose the acne and found a skincare routine that works for me. I used to be the type of girl who’d use whatever on my skin but there was eventually a product that made me less oily and caused less (to zero) break outs – Kiehl’s!

Kiehl’s

These are the products I’m trying out from Kiehl’s: Purifying Foaming Cleanser, Clarity Activating Toner and Clearly Corrective Spot Solution. I love how minimalist the packaging is and the brand really focuses more on the ingredients rather than the bottle. I used to have a lot of scars but I’ve been using this potent spot treatment serum and it noticeably lightened my acne marks. My mom uses it too to lighten dark pigmentation on her face and she agrees with me that it’s effective!

Second step: Moisturize!
My skin is a combination of oily to dry. Oily on the face but extremely dry on the body. Really weird so I always make sure to have a good bottle of lotion by my bedside. In terms of quality and affordability, Silka is one of my go-to products in moisturizing.

Aside from the yummy smell, Silka Shea butter has skin softening properties that moisturize and help soothe irritated and dry skin. It is easily absorbed by the skin with its lightweight formula which provides moisture all day, leaving the skin soft and radiant looking. Unlike other lotions, its non-greasy formulation with SPF 23 protects your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. For more information, check out @silkaskincare on Instagram.

So this is the quick skincare routine that works for me. It’s best to ask the shop for samples first before purchasing the big bottle so you see how it reacts to your skin but this is so effective for me right now.
