Lub d Hostel opens its doors in Makati! (Plus a staycation GIVEAWAY)

The hostel game-changer

Okay honestly – when I received and read the invite to check out a hostel, I thought twice. As a traveller, I value my privacy (I’ve tried room sharing but it isn’t always my preference), after a long day of visiting touristy sites I look forward to coming back to soft linen sheets, my own en-suite bathroom and cool air-conditioning. So to check out and stay in a hostel? I wasn’t sure but all of this changed when I visited my first Lub d branch.

When I accepted the project wit Lub d, I travelled to different parts of Asia to experience Lub d with a group of bloggers – Colz is one of them! We went to Siem Reap, Phuket and Thailand. I’ll save the kwento for that adventure in my upcoming vlog but of course, we couldn’t miss out on Lub d’s newly opened Makati branch!

In every Lub d branch, you’ll spot an artsy wall featuring the city highlights / possible trips for the adventurous milennial. Lub d Makati is actually the largest hostel in the Philippines (Hi, 233 beds!) – not to mention, it’s location is in the hustle and bustle of Makati, right on Makati Ave. It’s near the arsty Poblacion district to find the bars then if you traverse down further, you’ll hit the Greenbelt area.

We flew in via a late flight from Thailand so I was honestly excited to get the keys, go to the room, unpack, and bury myself into fluffy pillows and soft sheets. Lub d Makati offers 3 unique room types: For the solo traveller, they have the Junior Room (for 1-2 people), the Mixed / Ladies Dorm for solo/group travellers then uniquely available in Lub d Makati is the barkada room – a private room for 4!

I was so happy once I got into the room. It’s spacious (I parked my 2 luggages on the side), I love the elevated bed, soft sheets, cool aircon – just what I was hoping for after a long day. It also has a sort of modern/industrial design to it which I really like. Good morning from Lub d Makati – time for a cuppa tea!

The Lub d Junior Rooms provided a king size bed (or 2 large single beds) during my stay and I immediately fell in love with its fresh linen and soft pillows – not to mention the nice big window that brings all the light in. Of course – the Wifi internet access was quite fast!

Right by my window, you could literally see the hustle and bustle on Makati Ave. You’ll see A-venue, the street bazaars and it’s an easy location to get around to.

I love how the room comes with all the main amenities (like a hotel!), the kettle, coffee/tea, 2 bottles of complimentary water. It even comes with a hair dryer and I remember, I entered the mixed dorm bathroom in Siem Reap, they even had a hair curler! How awesome is that?

As you can see from here, you even have an electronic safe to secure your belongings. I really loved how roomy the private room / Junior Room was!

It’s nice to always have fresh towels on hand. I usually bring my own hair products but as you can see, Lub d provides shower gel and shampoo for its guests. The heater and water pressure of the shower is fabulous too!

To celebrate the opening of Lub d, we were joined by our blogger and media friends to have a tour of its facilities. They seemed to enjoy it too!

Now, the second room type is the Barkada Room. This high-ceiling duplex is actually unique – only in the Philippines! It comfortably fits 4 people. It has 2 single beds and 1 King (that you can convert into 2 single beds). The room is well air-conditioned, has an en-suite bathroom with all the amenities in the Junior Room.

So in a way, you and your barkada are hitting 2 birds with one stone. You’re getting the affordability – as well as the privacy and style. I really liked the barkada room and would like to try it one time!

With Simon Morley of Lub d | At the Mixed Dorm

Simon Morley (who is usually based in Thailand!) graced the event and joined us in the launch! It was actually the eve of Valentines Day and his wife’s birthday so he flew back on the same day to celebrate it. (Awww!) But through him, we got to know more about the Lub d vision and the unforgettable experience Lub d aims to bring among us travellers. We are living testaments – this hostel is crazy fun!

At the Mixed / Ladies Dorms, they’re pretty spacious too. It’s a maximum of 8 travellers per room with seperate lockers and changing area. I also loved the universal sockets / USB ports by the beds. All dorm floors have separate shared bathrooms of their own too! The bathrooms are quite spacious, clean – not to mention great lighting! Hehe

Lub d Facilities | Cooldown & Theater Room

Aside from its awesome rooms, Lub d is known for its facilities! They have a co-working space, meeting room, cooldown room (where you can stay if ever you’re too early to check-in), Laundry room and a space to store your luggage (for up to 60 days!). That option is very helpful for those who have backpacking plans around Asia!
