6 Tips For Shooting Street Fashion

by yukihigson

I received a lot of questions during my last trip to Hong Kong and most if it was: “Who takes your photos???” Yes, including the multiple question marks. Guess who? Sharing with you a quick crash course on Street Style Photography 101 😉

Street Style Photography Tip 1: Be mindful of your feet placement.

Yes, pay attention on how your feet is positioned. For a convincing “I was walking down the street when they took this.”, point up the foot walking forward and tip toe with the one behind. Exhibit A ^ Convincing? I think so. 😉

Street Style Photography Tip 2: Mix tip 1 and look far, far away

The fun part about traveling is getting lost. You’re satisfying your wanderlust so to make that look convincing, give a look that you are scanning the environment by gazing far with hand in the pocket for that “I’m just a tourist so I’m kinda shy-look”.

Street Style Photography Tip 3: Mix Tip 2 and slightly open your mouth

In short, try to make “nganga” but still look fab by holding an article of your clothing or an accessory like this hat – as if you were caught in a candid moment.

Street Style Photography Tip 4: Mix Tip 3 with small movements

So you can’t look like you are walking every single time in all the photos so how do you still make it look sort of candid? Mix the “nganga” but fab pose with small movements such as tucking your hand in your pocket or fixing your shirt. Pweds? Pweds.

Street Style Photography Tip 5: The “Paparazzi” looking down effect

You see the 2 ladies behind her looking up? Wouldn’t it look nicer if they were looking down? Plus points if you throw in a pair of cool sunnies.

Street Style Photography Tip 6: The “Wait – I’m not ready” pose

I rarely get to pull this off cos most of the time I literally look NOT ready but if your photographer is amazing, you might get lucky. Do something random like folding up your sleeves, putting on your coat or shades then voila! The “I’m not ready” shot. Watchathink? 😉
