Imagine a busy road – pedestrians rushing from left to right. On the third day of my Hong Kong trip, I finally figured out what to do to take a good pedestrian photo. It’s so simple you won’t believe it!

Usually, it’s so difficult to take a “crossing the road” photo because 1.) too many people get in the photo and 2.) you might get run over. So what’s the secret in taking an effective pedestrian photo? It’s simple: Stop, Look and Listen.
STOP
Stop and stay still so the person who is taking your photo can adjust the lighting and the focus. Most importantly, stop and wait at a place that won’t put you in danger. Pedestrians in Hong Kong are so disciplined when crossing the street wherein it’s a give and take between the vehicles.
LOOK
Look away from the camera to give that “candid” effect to your photos (LOL!) and observe where the bulk of the pedestrians are going. Look at them and if you notice they are going towards the right, position yourself at the left most of the photo so you get less people blocking your picture.
LISTEN
Lastly, listen to the person taking your pictures! A little bit to the right? Look up? I was lucky enough to have my best friend Nicole Ty snapping all my shots – she is very meticulous. But I was really shopping in this photo
